Framing is quite easy but too time consuming for most artists.
I decided to mount and frame my own pictures because I then had total control of how my work would be presented.
Creating the moudling, cutting the mitred frames to exact dimentions, glueing the frame pieces, cutting the mount, backing board and
glass are quite straight forward techniques. My first frame was made out of a pair of chair legs found in my Father-in -law's cellar
and was ideal to frame his portrait. Softwoods / hardwoods, old frames, re-cycled wood and scrap wood can be made into a frame moulding.
I use a 5mm rebate to a depth of 8mm to accommodate the artwork, mount, backing board and glass.
I have also repaired older frames or re-used frames for other artworks. Recycle, recycle, recycle.
